Prenatal Yoga

Prenatal Yoga class offers a chance for women at all stages of their pregnancy to enhance their posture, strength, focus and ability to calm the mind with breath and a variety of other techniques.

The class begins with a relaxation to rest the back and restore the mind as well as learn a variety of breathing practices.  These breathing practices can be helpful during labor, delivery and parenting as well as during yoga poses.

The focus for Prenatal Yoga poses is to tone and strengthen muscles in the legs, pelvis, abdomen, back and arms, stretch through the legs, back, arms, neck, shoulders and chest and relieve minor discomforts.  Each asana chosen is specific for the prenatal population and modifications are offered for various trimesters and individual needs.

The practice finishes with squats, some breathing, meditation and relaxation in a prenatal version of Savasana.

Mary has been teaching prenatal yoga in Charlottetown  since April 2003 when she was pregnant with her first child, Andrew. She had a second child, Amanda in August, 2006.
